It’s that time of year when skiers and biathletes share exotic vacation photos from holiday paradises. But the Finnish star did something entirely different: he cycled to Italy to watch a stage of the Giro d’Italia!

World Championship medalist from Trondheim 2025, Finnish Lauri Vuorinen, took two friends and embarked on an unconventional vacation after the season. Perhaps “vacation” isn’t the right word.

The trio cycled to Italy to watch the time trial stage of this year’s Giro d’Italia.

During the journey, they experienced a variety of weather conditions. Lauri Vuorinen shared on social media:

“Summer once again began with an adventure on a bike through Europe. The goal was to reach Italy and the Mediterranean coast to follow the time trial stage of the Giro d’Italia. This time, the journey was not just a walk in the park – along the way, we encountered +5 degrees and torrential rain, six flat tires, and all sorts of equipment troubles. Nevertheless, the trip offered many memorable experiences: a concentration camp, Berlin, Luxembourg, and of course, the main goal – the Giro stage in Italy.”

The journey began with a ferry to Germany, followed by a visit to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, before taking a train to Belgium. Here, they cycled on roads used in the cycling classic Liège–Bastogne–Liège, known as “La Doyenne,” the oldest classic.

From Luxembourg, the Finns took the train again, this time to Basel, before cycling for a day in Switzerland and then continuing by train to Italy.

Here are the facts from Lauri Vuorinen and his friends’ “vacation trip”
