Jessie Diggins confirms that this will be her final season as a skier. The races on home soil in Lake Placid in March will be the last of her career.

In recent years, Jessie Diggins has been one of the dominant athletes in women’s cross-country skiing. The American has collected a total of 10 World Championship and Olympic medals, and as recently as March, she won the overall World Cup for the second year in a row.

But now the 34-year-old confirms that the Olympics in Milano/Cortina will be her final championship.

“I want to share with you that this will be my final year of ski racing! It’s going to be hard to step away from this sport and team that I love so much, but it also feels right in my heart, and I’m so excited to open a new chapter in my life!” the star writes on social media.

Meant a lot

In the same post, Diggins tries to describe what skiing means to her.

“I’ve thought a lot about how I might somehow express what this sport and all the people it’s led me to mean to me…but the truth is, I keep crying every time I try!”

This year’s World Cup finals will take place on Diggins’ home turf in Lake Placid, which will be her last competitions.
