About FESA – Federation of European Ski & Snowboard Associations

The Federation of European Ski & Snowboard Associations (FESA) is the continental body that unites national ski federations across Europe to develop the next generation of elite winter sport athletes.

Initially founded in 1972 as the Organisation des Fédérations de Ski des Pays Alpins (O.P.A.), the association initially brought together ten national ski federations from the Alpine region. Its mission was to coordinate regional competitions and foster collaboration between national ski associations, the International Ski Federation (FIS), and later the International Biathlon Union (IBU).

In 2018, the organization, headquartered in Planegg near Munich, became a registered association, solidifying its administrative structure and long-term objectives. Its central goal has remained consistent: to provide young skiers with their first international racing experience and to prepare them for the next level of competition.

Today, the FESA Continental Cup serves as the most important competition series under FESA’s framework and stands as the key development platform below the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. Many of today’s World Cup and Olympic athletes took their first steps on the international stage through this series.

A significant milestone came in October 2023, when the organization expanded beyond its traditional Alpine base to include new members from Northern, Eastern, and Central Europe. At the Annual General Meeting in Sölden, the 17 member nations voted to rename the organization to the Federation of European Ski & Snowboard Associations (FESA), reflecting its broader European scope while maintaining its base in Planegg, Germany.

Founding O.P.A./FESA members: Andorra, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland
New FESA members since 2023: Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Sweden
Joined in 2024: Denmark

More information about the organization can be found HERE on their website.
