Challengers Värnamorullen granted Swedish Championship status
Last week, the Swedish Ski Association announced the upcoming hosts of the Swedish Championships. This autumn’s edition of Värnamorullen, a Ski Classics Challengers event, has been awarded SM (Swedish Championship) status.
The allocations aim to both complete the upcoming season and follow the new assignment system that has been introduced. It is now confirmed that the Swedish Championships in roller skiing will conclude at Värnamorullen on September 6, 2025.
Värnamorullen is a 40km race held on a 10km loop course. The longer distances also serve as seeding races for the Vasaloppet.
As a Ski Classics Challengers event, Värnamorullen usually attracts a strong field in both the women’s and men’s categories. Last year, Alvar Myhlback claimed a dominant victory among the men, while Jenny Larsson won the women’s race in a close sprint against Johanna Hagström.

Ski Classics Challengers Värnamorullen
For the ninth time, Värnamorullen will take place in Värnamo, in the middle of southern Sweden, and for the fourth time as a Ski Classics Challengers.
The organizers invite professional and recreational skiers, as well as youngsters, to an event featuring an extremely nice course along scenic landscapes and a good road surface. The roller ski course features a slightly hilly lap course without challenging downhill skiing, suitable for all levels of athletes. The main race, part of the Ski Classics Challengers circuit, is 40 km in distance, while shorter distances are also offered.
During the race, participants can enjoy typical” Småländsk” nature with meadows and small villages on the way. A hearty meal, including drinks, coffee, and cake, will be served to everyone who wishes to do so at the event area, allowing participants to enjoy good food and socialize with fellow skiing enthusiasts.

Swedish Champs to conclude at Idre Fjäll in 2026
It has also been confirmed that Idre-Särna SK and Borås SK will host the 2026 Swedish Championship finale. In the press release, the Swedish Ski Association hints at innovations during the final event:
“On April 11, the conclusion of the national cross-country ski cup (The Originals) will be arranged, with a newly started cross-country race that will offer more distances where there will be an alternative for everyone who wants to experience spring skiing at its best.
The event is a new approach and a test for the future by combining traditional distances with a wide-ranging event during the same weekend. The goal is to create a real ski party where you manage to create synergies between the disciplines and, in addition, incentives for a large audience on site,” writes the Swedish Ski Association.
