Roller skiing across Europe: Erixon will be in Germany by the end of the day

Here we go; Erixon’s project started on Monday in Southern Sweden. After two days of roller skiing, Erixon is now in Denmark and plans to be in Germany by the end of the day. For ProXCskiing.com, he looks back on his first days on the road.

Please tell us about the first few days: how did it go?

“It was a good start yesterday on Monday morning. I started roller skiing in Smygehuk, Sweden’s southernmost point, also where I finished crossing the country in 2020. Then I started heading back towards Malmö, which was 55km.”

“This first day was really tough because the wind was coming from the North West, and I had 8 to 9 m/s of headwind. This part of Sweden is flat, and without forest, so there is nothing to stop the wind; that was a real struggle. The wind makes a huge difference with the backpack, which is really obvious.”

“But then I went over the bridge to Copenhagen and did some really nice shots for my film.”

“Then, on Tuesday, I started the day by producing a podcast. I started roller skiing at 10:00 by going down to Copenhagen. It took a while to get out of Copenhagen with all the red lights, roundabouts, etc. I had a long day on the road with 95 km, but it was actually super nice: I had the sun, no headwind, pretty good traffic, the asphalt was good, and it was quite flat. I was just trying to survive with my backpack and get used to it.”

“This second day went okay; I’ve had a few pains in my right foot, but nothing to worry about yet. I had lunch at Circle K, eating some Danish pastries, and then I was back on the road. I finished my day around 19:00, so it was a long day. It felt long also because I’m used to this road that I took a lot with my parents to go on vacation to the Alps. Usually, this trip takes two hours, but for me, it took two days! (laugh)”

What’s the plan for the coming days? When will you be in Germany?

“The plan is to be in Germany this evening (Wednesday, 31st). I will roller ski to Rødby, and then I’ll have to take the ferry to Puttgarden and head towards Lübeck. I’m looking forward to coming to Germany! I enjoyed being in Copenhagen, but I will be happy to go to a place with forests to stop the wind.”

“After joining Lübeck, the plan is to go to Hamburg. I’ll have two lectures in Hamburg. I will talk about the Northern Scandinavian adventure and exploring the Nordic. Then my filmmaker is leaving me in Hamburg. After that, I’ll have to go toward Frankfurt so that it will be ten days on my own.”

Erixon’s project will continue until the end of June, and Proxcskiing.com is following his project. So if you want to follow this journey, stay tuned on ProXCskiing.com and Fredrik Erixon’s Instagram.
