Alvar Myhlback, Lager 157 Ski Team, is one of the promising Pro Tour talents. On Sunday, he finished in 8th place after having a support role for his teammate Emil Persson. For Alvar, this year’s Vasaloppet was just the beginning.

In the footsteps of Emil Persson, the sixteen-year-old Pro Tour athlete finished in a sensational eighth place at last weekend’s Vasaloppet.

Before Vasaloppet, Alvar Myhlback received authorization to start Vasaloppet and used that permission in the best way possible. The result was his first top 10 result in the Ski Classics Pro Tour calendar.

Längd.se had a talk with a thrilled athlete after the race.

“It was like a dream,” says Alvar.

But there were things Alvar wanted to do even better.

“I feel like I can always be better as long as I don’t win, and I always want to win anyway. But I’m very pleased.”

Vasaloppet’s winner, Emil Persson, praised the team effort and especially Alvar Myhlback, who helped him close a gap with just over 15km to go. Alvar himself is humbler.

“I’m sure he would have managed to take that back that gap himself as well. But the goal was to make it as easy as possible for him,” says Myhlback.

In less than two weeks, there’s another Grand Classics event, Birkebeinerrennet. Alvar is looking forward to the race in Norway.

“I hope I can maintain this form; then, it can probably be good.”

Next up is Birkebeinerrennet on Saturday, March 18. The race marks the 12th event of Ski Classics Season XIV.

The Season XIV of Ski Classics Pro Tour consists of 14 events on 10 event weekends in 6 different countries.
