Klæbo’s Injury Worse Than Expected

The Norwegian cross-country skiing start, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, may be out of regular training for several months.

The injury that Johannes Høsflot Klæbo sustained in July appears to be more severe than first thought, and it can mean a preparation break of several months.

When Klæbo first noticed the problems, a hamstring MRI was taken, and the images from the exam, which was carried out a couple of weeks ago, show that the injury is more significant than first thought.

“He had a feeling three or four weeks ago. MRI images were taken around two weeks ago, and the injury was thus investigated. We received confirmation that there is a strain or a stress injury at the top of the hamstring,” says national team doctor Ove Feragen to Adresseavisen.

The doctor suggests that the injury could put the skiing star out of action for several months.

“An injury like that takes some time. Based on experience, we assume that it takes anywhere from six to twelve weeks from the time the injury occurs until it is completely healed,” says Feragen.

In recent weeks, Klæbo has eased the training and postponed a tough training week planned for last week.

The plan was to resume regular training this week, participate in the national team camp in Steinkjer in mid-August and Toppidrettsveka in Aure and Trondheim the last weekend in August and then travel to the altitude training camp in the USA in September. But now, there are many indications that Klæbo will again have to adjust his training schedule to allow the injury to heal.

“The entire team is closely monitoring the situation. We evaluate weekly regarding what makes sense,” says Feragen.
