Victoria Carl receives an 18-month suspension for anti-doping rule violation
German cross-country skier Victoria Carl has been handed an 18-month suspension following an anti-doping rule violation, according to a decision issued by the independent German Sports Arbitration Court (DIS) on April 2, 2026.
The suspension concerns violations of Articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the German Ski Association’s anti-doping regulations (DSV-ADO). The ban starts from the date of the decision and, taking into account the provisional suspension already imposed, will run until November 25, 2026.
The case stems from a doping control carried out by the National Anti-Doping Agency of Germany (NADA Germany) on April 3, 2025, where the prohibited substance clenbuterol, classified under anabolic agents (S1), was detected.

In addition to the suspension, all of Carl’s competition results from March 26, 2025, to May 26, 2025, shall be disqualified, with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of results, points, medals, and prize money.
The decision follows a longer legal process. In September 2025, NADA Germany initially proposed a two-year suspension. A settlement agreement between the athlete and NADA Germany was later discussed. Still, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) did not approve the resolution, requiring the case to proceed through formal disciplinary proceedings.
At the athlete’s request, the case was brought before the German Sports Arbitration Court in December 2025, leading to the current ruling.
The decision is not yet final. Carl, NADA Germany, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), the International Military Sports Council (CISM), and WADA all retain the right to appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Carl, a key member of the German national team in recent seasons, has previously been the subject of ongoing proceedings related to this case. With this ruling, the process reaches a significant milestone, although the outcome will depend on whether any appeals are filed.
