Minneapolis-based elite cross-country ski program Team Birkie has officially changed its name to SNØ Racing, the organization announced on June 9, 2026.

The new name draws on the Nordic roots of the sport, with SNØ being the Norwegian word for snow. The rebrand includes a new logo designed to reflect what the team describes as the power and forward momentum of the program.

“We think the new logo reflects the power and forward-moving energy of our program,” said Luke Bodensteiner, SNØ Racing trustee and Strategy Committee chair and two-time Olympian, in a press release, and added:

“This is a logo that will stand out when our athletes take their places on race podiums across Europe and North America.”

The rebranding is also intended to sharpen the team’s commercial profile. Operating under the name Team Birkie placed the program in the shadow of the world-renowned American Birkebeiner race, and the new identity gives the organization its own distinct brand to use when pursuing sponsorship and supplier agreements.

SNØ Racing carries forward the mission of Team Birkie, which was founded with the support of three partner organizations: the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, the Loppet Foundation, and Central Cross-Country Skiing. All three continue to provide financial and leadership support to the program.

The team is based in Minneapolis and operates as a non-profit dedicated to developing high-performance athletes and promoting Nordic skiing. It is a program of Knicker Nordic Ski Club Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization.
