The next stage of the cross-country skiing World Cup season 2023/2024 starts in Goms, Switzerland, this Friday. The Swedish national team is now presented.

Goms, Switzerland, is the place for the next stage of this year’s cross-country skiing World Cup. The Goms World Cup starts on Friday, January 26, with a mixed 4x5km relay race in classic/freestyle techniques, followed by a sprint race in freestyle technique on Saturday, January 27, and a 20km mass start race in freestyle technique on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming World Cup in Goms. Sweden will start with 20 athletes. On the women’s side, Sweden will start with 9 skiers. Already on the men’s side, 11 athletes will start for the Scandinavian country.

“We had an exciting World Cup in Oberhof with fantastic results that were framed by a Swedish triple in the sprint and relay win on the women’s side – and also flashes of light on the men’s side. The competitions in Goms involve challenging courses,” says national team manager Anders Byström.

Johanna Hagström is back in the squad, and Moa Ilar is ready to compete again after illness. On the men’s side, names like Olof Jonsson, Björn Sandström, and Jonas Eriksson are back in the squad.

“Exciting to give a chance to Olof Jonsson, who scored great results this weekend at the Ford Smart Energy Cup. Emil Danielsson is also with Goms as he impressed in Oberhof with a personal record in the sprint where he made it to the semi-finals,” says Anders Byström.

Calle Halfvarsson, on the other hand, is out.

“He chooses to stand over this weekend as his body has not felt completely 100% during the last races. He, therefore, chose to travel home after Oberhof to train and prepare for upcoming competitions,” says Anders Byström.
