After finishing 27th in the 50km in Holmenkollen on Saturday afternoon, Ebba Andersson was devastated. Something was not right. On Sunday morning, the national team announced that the Olympic star will miss the entire World Cup final.

Andersson won two silver medals and one gold at the Olympics, but since then, not much has gone right for the 28-year-old Swede. In the 50km ITT race in Orsa Grönklitt, she finished tenth, more than eight minutes behind the winner.

And on Saturday’s 50km in Holmenkollen, she finished only 27th after falling early in the race. After the finish, Andersson was in tears.

“Something is not right.”

Forced to withdraw

Now Ebba Andersson is withdrawing from the remainder of the World Cup season. Three races remain, scheduled to take place in Lake Placid, USA.

“We have decided that Ebba needs a little more time to examine her right knee more closely, as well as her left hand, which was hit in the fall in Holmenkollen. She will therefore not travel with the national team to the USA on Sunday,” said Swedish national team doctor Rikard Noberius in a statement on Sunday morning.

“This is a precaution because it is a long trip, and there is a risk she would not be able to compete once she gets there. In that case, we believe it is better that she stays home so we can examine her further here,” he continued.

The Swedish national team will not bring in a replacement for Ebba Andersson. Her place in the races in the USA will be taken by skiers already on the team.

The following Swedish athletes have been selected for the World Cup final in the USA

Women: Maja Dahlqvist, Frida Karlsson, Johanna Hagström, Moa Ilar, Emma Ribom, Jonna Sundling, and Linn Svahn.

Men: Gustaf Berglund, Erik Johansson, Anton Grahn, George Ersson, Truls Gisselman, Johan Ekberg, Leo Johansson, and Eric Rosjö.

Several skiers are out for the season

Andersson is not the only skier skipping the remainder of the World Cup season. Last week, Edvin Anger announced that his season is over after what has been a nightmare season since November. The same applies to William Poromaa and Calle Halfvarsson.

Several Norwegian national team skiers have also finished their seasons, including two elite team members.
