Umeå in Sweden is hosting the Swedish roller ski championships starting today. Two competitions are on the program, the distance race on Friday and the sprint race on Saturday.

Taking place at the roller ski track in Umeå, built in 2019, the championships promise to captivate audiences nationwide. Swedish TV channel SVT will broadcast the races live, ensuring viewers don’t miss a moment of thrilling action. To enhance the competition experience, the course has undergone modifications designed to replicate the challenging conditions skiers encounter during winter.

“We are thrilled to host a roller skiing competition on the course that closely resembles those faced by skiers in the winter,” expressed the competition leader Per Rönnlund in a press release by the Swedish Ski Association.

As the Swedish Championships week unfolds, the entire city of Umeå adorns itself in vibrant displays, heralding the arrival of this prestigious sporting event.

“You can already see how flags are being put up everywhere and that there is an excitement in the air,” says Rönnlund.

Local names such as Linn Sömskar and Marcus Grate are preparing to take on Sweden’s elite on their home turf, which only adds to the excitement. Among the contenders are the Junior World Champion Anton Grahn, the 50km winner Gustaf Berglund and the always-strong Louise Lindström.

In addition to the competitions having Swedish Championships status, they also mark the starting point for the summer’s Svenska Spel Summer Tour. Two competitions in Umeå are followed by competition weekends in Trollhättan and Falun later in the summer.
