The 25-year-old finished third in the Swedish season opener in Bruksvallarna and made his World Cup debut last season. Now it’s confirmed that he’s switching clubs.

Johan Ekberg has competed for Nacka Värmdö SK since childhood. This past winter, he had something of a breakthrough when he placed third in the Swedish season opener in Bruksvallarna. Later in the season, he got to wear the national team suit for the first time in his career and compete in the World Cup.

That third-place finish took him all the way to the World Cup, where he competed in three events: 20 km freestyle in Ruka, 10 km freestyle in Lillehammer, and 20 km classic in Davos. His best result came in Ruka, where he placed 36th, finishing ahead of skiers like Jens Burman.

Moving to a major club

It’s now confirmed that he will race for IFK Mora SK in the coming season. The club already features several strong names like Anton Grahn and Gustaf Berglund.

On social media, the club wrote:

“We are happy that Johan wants to join us, and like all our other athletes, he will receive full support with races, training camps, and team spirit. Johan is an exciting skier who will grow and be challenged by our other athletes,” says the ski club’s chairman, Tomas Bredberg, in the press release.

Johan Ekberg’s home club expresses its thanks for his achievements:

“We thank Johan for all the fantastic successes – as a Junior World Champion in roller skiing and for his many assignments with the national team – and we wish him a big and heartfelt good luck,” writes Nacka Värmdö SK.
