Olympic medalist Federico Pellegrino is not done competing. He is now spreading his wings in a new sport.

The 35-year-old Italian has had one of the best seasons of his career. Now, Federico Pellegrino is trading in his cross-country skis for a bicycle.

This Saturday, Pellegrino helped organize stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia, from Aosta to Pila. Moving forward, he will be focusing even more on cycling.

“In the next month and a half, I will increase my training to prepare for the cycling race Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel in the Team Enervit kit,” Pellegrino told Tuttobiciweb.

“I will also participate in The 24 Hours of Feltre, a solo event, with the team of Paolo Kessisoglu,” he continued.

Golden age for cycling

Pellegrino shares that he has had a passion for cycling for many years, is friends with several professional cyclists, and closely follows the sport.

“I have enormous respect for Pippo (Filippo) Ganna, even though I don’t know him personally, and I generally believe we are now in a golden age for cycling worldwide. I often discuss this with my cycling-enthusiast friends, including Matteo Mocellini, who introduced me to cyclists like (Marco) Frigo and Andrea Pasqualon,” Pellegrino stated.

For the newly retired cross-country skier, the Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel is the next big goal for the season.

The race takes place on July 5 and passes several legendary passes: Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Campolongo, Falzarego, Giau, and Valparola, featuring 4,230 meters of elevation gain over 138 kilometers.
