Shock for Frida Karlsson: Super coach switches sports
Having been Frida Karlsson’s personal coach since her junior days, the future is now suddenly uncertain.
Per Nilsson has concluded his role as coach of the German women’s national team and is taking on a new position as a coach in the Swedish Biathlon Association. The successful coach has been with Karlsson since her junior years, and now the future is unclear.
“We need to discuss this,” he told SVT Sport.
Nothing is decided
When Nilsson was introduced as the new development manager in the Swedish Biathlon Association on Thursday morning, he stated that nothing had been decided regarding his future with Karlsson.
“This is very new, so we will discuss it and see if it’s possible to continue the collaboration and what that might look like,” he said.
Nilsson mentioned that he has not yet discussed potential future collaboration with Karlsson in relation to the biathlon association. However, he believes that his switch to biathlon could be beneficial for their partnership.
“I will be in Östersund more, where she lives. I have been her coach from a distance for the last few years.”Â
Not relevant to the national team
The successful Swedish coach has also previously worked with biathlon, including as head coach of the US national team.
Now he reveals that he has turned down several offers to take the newly created position as development manager in the Swedish Biathlon Association.Â
“Germany wanted me to stay there, but that wasn’t an option. I also had a school job that I was on leave from. That’s what I can say officially,” says Nilsson.
