Last Sunday, the 6th Vogelsberg Roller Ski Marathon fired the starting gun as the second stage of the DSV Roller Ski Marathon Series. In perfect weather with sunshine and temperatures around 19°C, athletes had one more chance to showcase strong form ahead of the World Cup in Sweden and the World Championships in Latvia.

This year’s edition sent women and men around a closed 5km loop on a perfectly paved road through a forest in Grebenhain, Germany. The women completed five laps for a total of 25km, while the men tackled eight laps for 40km.

In the women’s race, Melina Schöttes once again took the win in 1:13:28, adding to her victory from the opening stage in Oberhof. Luisa Grießbaum of the Cibes Lift Ski-Willy Marathon Team finished second in 1:15:59, closing the gap a bit more to Schöttes compared to Oberhof. Third place went to Birgit Wagner (Team Zipps) in 1:33:14.

The men’s race was tighter. Juri Propp prevailed over the long distance in 1:42:43. Till Hartmann, who broke a pole tip in an intermediate sprint and dealt with temporary technical issues, had to concede to his teammate from the Bruse Sauerland Ski Team this time. Hartmann finished in 1:42:54, six seconds ahead of third-placed Bernhard Langer, who crossed the line in 1:43:00.

With the Vogelsberger Roller Ski Marathon, the qualification races for the Roller Ski World Cup and the Roller Ski World Championships in Latvia also came to an end.
