This spring, Ingrid Hallquist ended her skiing career. Now she has changed paths and entered politics.

Ingrid Hallquist hung up her skis this spring. During her active career as a cross-country skier, she participated in 15 World Cup events, earned a silver medal in the Swedish Championships relay with Åsarna, and achieved podium finishes in the national Smart Energy Cup.

Now, she is running for the Moderaterna party for a seat on the municipal council in Bergs kommun.

Changing paths

“I have always loved to discuss and argue. I enjoy raising issues that I am passionate about,” Ingrid Hallquist told Östersunds-Posten.

Ingrid believes that her background as an elite athlete could be an advantage.

“I am quite goal-oriented as a person; I know what I need to do. However, it should not overshadow the fact that this is also a democracy. If others do not agree with me, that’s just how it is,” says Ingrid Hallquist.

Passionate about equality

What issues are you particularly passionate about?

“Of course, equality is always relevant. It is something I believe we can work more on.”

Other important areas for Hallquist include employment and agriculture.

“It should pay off to work and to educate oneself. And of course, agriculture is an important part as well; they are the ones who sustain Sweden, and it should be rewarding to run a farm.”
