Everything is ready for today’s event at the World Championships in Planica, Slovenia. Here is the preview, start list, and start time for the women’s relay race.

Women’s Relay Race 4x5km – Preview

On Thursday, March 2, 2023, the Women’s 4x5km relay in Planica will feature a range of strong contenders from around the world. Among these, Norway is the standout, having won five of the last six world titles in this event. The only exception was in 2019, when Norway finished second behind Sweden.

In this century, Norway has missed out on a medal in the 4x5km relay only once, coming in fourth place in 2009.

Sweden is another strong contender for the women’s 4x5km relay, having won a medal in this event at six successive World Championships from 2009 to 2019. In 2019, Sweden claimed its first world title in this event, with Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson being part of the winning team. However, Sweden finished sixth in 2021.

Finland has also shown its strength in the women’s 4x5km relay, having won four world titles in this event, trailing only Russia/Soviet Union (10) and Norway (7). Finland’s women claimed six medals in the last eight editions, including bronze in 2021. Krista Pärmäkoski (4) could join Riitta-Liisa Roponen (5) and Aino-Kaisa Saarinen (5) on a record five medals in this relay for Finland.

In contrast, the United States has yet to win a medal in the women’s 4x5km relay, while Germany last won a medal in this event, a silver medal, in 2009. Germany has won ten medals in this event (including West/East Germany), and won it at the Olympic Winter Games in 1980 (as East Germany) and at the World Championships in 2003.

Overall, the Women’s 4x5km relay in Planica promises to be an exciting event, with a range of strong contenders vying for the title.

Planica, Slovenia, is the place for this winter season’s World Championships, with ten competitions in 12 days and the last race being the men’s cross-country skiing 50km mass start race on March 5, 2023.
