Major Changes in Norway’s World Cup Team

The recent Covid-infection in the Norwegian national team forces major changes to the line-up for the World Cup in Drammen, Norway, on Thursday.

Johannes Loennestad Flaaten (NOR), who just won the sprint race at the Junior World Championships, is named to Norway's World Cup team for the World Cup sprint in Drammen.

After the World Cup weekend in Lahti, Finland, last weekend, the entire Norwegian men’s sprint team tested positive for Covid-19

The situation has forced the national team directors to make major changes in the lineup: 12 new racers are replacing the originally named athletes and their close contacts.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, Pål Golberg, Erik Valnes, Sindre Bjørnestad Skar, Even Northug, Ansgar Evensen, Heidi Weng, Mathilde Myhrvold and Silje Theodorsen will not race at the World Cup in Drammen.

Replacing them are Ingrid Andrea Gulbrandsen and Hanne Wilberg Rofstad for the women’s sprint.

Gøran Tefre, Vebjørn Moen and Sivert Wiig, along with three juniors: Alexander Elde Holmboe, Nikolay Elde Holmboe, and Johannes Lønnestad Flaaten are named to the Norwegian national team for the men’s sprint.

Additionally, Anna Svendsen is added to the team for the women’s 30km in Holmenkollen on Saturday. For the men’s 50km in Holmenkollen on Sunday, three new racers are added: Eirik Mysen, Sondre Ramse and Sjur Røthe.
