German Team For Tour de Ski 2022/2023

by Leandro Lutz • 30.12.2022
Tour de Ski 2022/2023 starts on New Year’s Eve. The German Team is now presented for the multi-stage event in Switzerland, Germany, and Italy from December 31 to January 8.

Now in its 17th edition, Tour de Ski consists of seven competitions over nine days in three different countries, and it’s the fifth round of the 2022/2023 FIS World Cup.

In a press release, the German Ski Association named their cross-country ski team for Tour de Ski. Germany will start with 18 athletes. On the women’s side, Germany will begin with nine skiers. Already on the men’s side, also nine athletes will start for the European country.

“The preparations for the Tour de Ski began right after the World Cup in Beitostølen. Some athletes had already skipped this World Cup and trained at altitude in Davos – even beyond the World Cup there. We want to go to Val Müstair with good altitude preparation at 1600 meters above sea level. This long Tour preparation mainly affected the older, distance-oriented runners such as Lucas Bögl and Jonas Dobler. For the sprinters, who were still there in Beitostølen, a shorter preparation was on the program,” says the National Team manager Peter Schlickenrieder and continues:

“Most traveled late to Val Müstair for the shortest possible stay at altitude. Traditionally, the Tour de Ski is an important and significant event for us: this is where most of the qualifications for the World Championships take place, and with Tobias Angerer, we provided the first-ever Tour winner. In addition, there is also a home World Cup in Oberstdorf. Racing in front of your fans is the greatest thing. Finally, spectators can be there again, and with it, many friends and families of the skiers. This is a great motivation for the athletes.”
