The 26-year-old celebrated her Olympic sprint gold in the arms of her national team teammate and now confirms that they are a couple.

On Tuesday, Sweden swept the podium in the Olympic sprint. Linn Svahn and Jonna Sundling battled for gold and silver, while Maja Dahlqvist took bronze. After the victory, Svahn celebrated in the arms of her national team colleague Johan Häggström.

The Swedish veteran also raced the sprint the same day. The 33-year-old from powerhouse club Piteå Elit finished 30th in the qualification and grabbed the final spot for the heats. He was eliminated in the quarterfinal.

Svahn is still struggling with lingering effects from the concussion she suffered when she fell the day before the World Championship sprint in Trondheim last year. The national team management has therefore asked her not to take part in press conferences or interview rounds during the Olympics.

But Sweden’s press chief Astri Lindbäck confirms that Svahn and Häggström are in a relationship.

“Yes, that’s correct,” Lindbäck says.

Grabbed the final Olympic spot

It was, moreover, a close call for the two lovebirds to travel to Italy as part of the Swedish Olympic team.

Svahn qualified for this year’s Olympics after fighting her way back from an injury sustained at last year’s World Championship, but injuries and illness have marked her winter leading into the Games.

Häggström secured one of the final two spots on the Swedish team in the very last selection before the Olympics.

Five-year injury nightmare

Despite being only 26 years old, Svahn has already endured more serious injuries than many athletes experience over an entire career. Five years of almost continuous injury problems have cost the Swedish star two World Championships and the 2022 Olympics.

In the buildup to the 2021 World Championships, she suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined her for nearly two years and cost her the entire 2022 Olympic season. She had only just returned in time for the 2023 World Championships, only to miss the 2025 World Championships.
