Calle Halfvarsson At A Crucial Moment In His Career

by PROXCSKIING • 23.12.2021
A total of seven men cross-country skiers from Sweden have already been selected for the 2022 Beijing Olympics, if Calle doesn’t get the eighth and final spot he will retire as a skier.

“Should it be the case that I am not selected and I miss the Olympics, then I will not continue to ski, I’m pretty sure”, Halfvarsson says to SVT Sport.

Calles Halfvarsson is not surprised or disappointed that he did not take a place in the Olympic team after the start of the season he had. After starting in both Ruka, Lillehammer and Davos, his best position was 35th place.

“I have not performed at the level I want if I am going to an Olympics. There are no oddities, I’m not disappointed, I’m more disappointed with how I’ve performed so far. But I look forward to going on the Tour and hope I can do something better there”, says Halfvarsson to SVT and continues:

“I am not interested in going to a championship and not fighting for top places.”

If he misses the Olympics, this winter will probably be his last in his career.

“Then it can definitely be. It is not entirely impossible that it will be the last. Then I have to think about whether I would be able to spend another year. I will continue this season but if it is so that I don’t qualify and I miss the Olympics then I will not continue to ski, I’m pretty sure”, Halfvarsson says to SVT Sport.
