Båstad-Mölle is one of the longest roller ski races in Sweden. The course measures 80 kilometers and runs along the Bjäre Peninsula before continuing to the Kulla Peninsula, where the finish line is located at Mölle.

Several distances are offered—from the longest, 80 kilometers, to the shortest, which is the youth race. The 80-kilometer race is a Ski Classics Challengers event.

Aiming to Increase Safety

For this year’s edition of the race, the organizers have focused on further improving safety. There are four road sections designated as risk zones. In these areas, road signs will warn drivers about the race and recommended maximum speed signs of 40 km/h will be posted.

“What we’ve improved this year is safety. There was a downhill section where several skiers fell. Now we’ve added safety zones there,” says CEO Lennart Klingberg.

The risk zones must be passed with good safety margins. Participants must ski in a single file and are not allowed to change positions within these zones.

There may be another change if everything goes as planned.

“If everything works out, the elite will start down in the harbor in Båstad.”

Hoping for a Spectator Celebration

In previous years, skiers have experienced strong spectator presence along the course. This year, the organizers are working even harder to enhance that and make it an even greater celebration for spectators.

“The skiers felt there was quite a lot of audience before. And now it’s going to be even better. Mölle Golf Club has sent information to all their members, and that’s 2.300 people reached that way.”

“We’ve also had meetings with the municipal council and the destination developers.”

The organizers provide buses to facilitate easier transportation for participants to the start and back to their cars after the finish. All logistical information is available on the Båstad-Mölle website.

Involving Local Clubs

The event involves 10 local clubs, which contribute volunteers. A total of 250 volunteers are involved, and there are seven aid stations with Enervit.

“There are ten local clubs helping out in total. It’s very important that things are happening in their villages.”

And participants will be treated to spectacular views.

“After the skiers climb up to Hov, you can see over to Kullaberg,” concludes the CEO.
