Axel Jutterström had a solid season last year and won the Ski Classics Climb competition. Now a new season is underway, and today the first individual race, the Bad Gastein Criterium, takes place.

Axel Jutterström had a stable last season and secured the Climb bib. Now a new Ski Classics season has begun, and today it is time for the first individual race, the Bad Gastein Criterium, a race in which he finished third last year.

“I think my form is quite okay. I feel roughly the same as I did ahead of last season. Back then, it was good already on the first weekend, so let’s hope for the same,” he says at the Ski Classics Live Sessions ahead of this weekend’s competitions in Bad Gastein.

Like many other Swedish skiers, Axel Jutterström opened his season in Gällivare. There, he finished 21st in the classic race and 14th in the freestyle race.

“I raced in Gällivare and thought they were okay races. It wasn’t my very best shape, but still roughly the results I’ve had in previous season openers, so I was happy to see that my body was working and where I wanted it to be ahead of this Ski Classics season,” he says.

Have you made any significant changes ahead of the season?

“I haven’t made any major changes. I’ve kept much of what worked well last year, so I’ve mostly made small adjustments. Maybe the biggest change is not having Marthe as my coach anymore, but instead going back to having Håkan Löfström in my ski club as my coach. Even so, I still do, or have done, much the same in training.”

It was at the end of last season that Team Eksjöhus coach Marte Kristoffersen announced her intention to step down. After a training season with a new coach, he does not feel there is a big difference compared to last season.

“When we had Marthe, she was at every training camp. She filmed, worked on technique, and talked about training at the camps. Now with Håkan, I’ve had camps with IFK Mora, and training-wise, I don’t feel there’s a big difference. It’s just a few small details in the training.”

For Axel Jutterström, who is from Mora, there is one obvious goal for the season.

“I would say winning Vasaloppet. Of course, that’s everyone’s goal, right? It’s a tough race,” he says.
