The top wax technician behind four consecutive Vasaloppet victories had a dramatic start to the weekend.

“What the hell happened there!!!”

This is what the head of waxing for the Swedish Pro Team, Lager 157 Ski Team, posted on his Instagram account.

On Friday morning, Marcus Laggar was admitted to the hospital due to a severe gallstone attack. The 38-year-old was discharged Friday afternoon, but his summer will not go as planned. He did manage to attend the weekend’s summer party, but now he faces further examination and surgery.

Key resource

There is no doubt that Laggar is a key resource for the Swedish Pro Team. The waxing tech is responsible for all testing and waxing for the squad that has won Vasaloppet for the past four years.

Last winter, Lager 157 Ski Team claimed all five top spots in the men’s Vasaloppet.

Veteran Oskar Kardin went solo to win the race ahead of last year’s champion Alvar Myhlback and three other teammates.

Additionally, Laggar’s athletes secured victory in the sprint in Bedrichov, two podium finishes in Marcialonga, and one podium finish at Birkebeinerrennet during the past season.

Star-studded Pro Team

For the Ski Classics World Championship Season XVIII (2026/2027), Lager 157 Ski Team will consist of Oskar Kardin, Nils Dahlsten, Alvar Myhlback, Runar Skaug Mathisen, Emil Persson, Einar Kalland-Olsen, and Bruno Dettman on the men’s side.

The women’s team includes Anja Stolpe, Linnea Johansson, Karolina Hedenström, and Moa Hansson, with Hansson being new to the team this year.
