Newly engaged and moving – but struggling with the roller ski treadmill

The Ski Classics stars got engaged this summer, but now the couple faces an unusual challenge as they prepare to move into their new home in October.

Karolina Hedenström, who finished third in the Youth Competition of Ski Classics last winter, and Alfred Buskqvist announced their engagement during the summer. On October 16, they will relocate to Ottsjö in Jämtland, Sweden, for the coming winter, where they have already secured a place to live.

But their moving load is far from ordinary. Among the furniture and boxes is a massive roller ski treadmill – equipment crucial for their training and performance.

Now, the couple is searching for a facility to house the training beast. To find a solution, they posted requests in local media.

“Hello! Alfred and I are moving up on October 16 and are really looking forward to living there this winter. We’ve found a place to stay, but are now looking for a space that can fit our roller ski treadmill. The facility needs three-phase electricity, at least 3×2 meters of space, more than 2.5 meters ceiling height, and good ventilation or open air possibilities since it gets quite warm,” Hedenström wrote.

Only hours later, they were contacted by two potential candidates, but nothing has been finalized yet.

“Jack Ottendahl at Fjällfysiken and Latti Östlund, trail manager in Vålådalen, have both offered help. But it’s quite large and heavy, so getting it in place is a bit of a process. At least now we have two options to look into further,” Hedenström told Langrenn.com.

This Sunday, both are registered for Klarälvsloppet, the highlight of the autumn roller ski season. The race starts at 10:00 CET and can be watched live on SC Play from 9:55 CET with Ski Classics Legend Magni Smedås and Kjell-Erik Kristiansen leading the broadcast.

A childhood dream

The move to Ottsjö is about realizing a shared dream.

“It’s a kind of childhood dream for us to spend summers on the west coast and winters in the real mountains. This summer we stayed on the island of Tjörn, just outside Gothenburg. Now we want to try living in Ottsjö, with proper mountains right outside the door,” said Hedenström enthusiastically.

Double-dating every weekend

Hedenström and Buskqvist, who represent Lager 157 Ski Team and Team Ramudden, respectively, will also be closer to their Pro Teams.

In Östersund, Hedenström’s teammate Emil Persson lives, together with Norwegian long-distance star Emilie Fleten, who skis for Team Ramudden. Not far away in Undersåker are Ramudden’s Pro Team Directors, Lina and Gustav Korsgren. With everyone competing throughout the season, there is plenty of time together.

“Yes, we double-date every weekend all winter. It’s perfect,” laughs Hedenström.
