The Lager 157 Ski Team athlete fell while jogging. The outcome was unfortunate: a severe sprain and ankle fracture.

“Jogging on trails is dangerous! It ended in a severe ankle sprain and fracture,” this is what former Marcialonga winner Runar Skaug Mathisen shared on Instagram.

As a result, his summer will not go as planned. He now faces weeks without running and roller skiing. However, the powerful skier from Vinje in Telemark is taking it with humor:

“After a few days of complaining, it is back to work on the SkiErg. The upside is no risk of getting sunburned.”

The 196cm tall Norwegian skier won the Marcialonga in 2024 and has been a key member of the Lager 157 Ski Team for several years. Last winter, the Pro Team dominated Vasaloppet once again, with Runar Skaug Mathisen finishing in fourth place. He was also the best Norwegian, just 4.6 seconds behind teammate Oskar Kardin, who took the victory.

With Einar Kalland-Olsen finishing right behind as the second-best Norwegian, Lager 157 Ski Team claimed the top five spots. This is an achievement that will be hard to replicate.

But this summer will be all about the SkiErg and crutches for Skaug Mathisen. It remains uncertain how long it will take for him to return to full strength.
