New shooting coach appointed for Swedish biathlon team
It is now confirmed who will take over Jean Marc Chabloz’s role as shooting coach for the Swedish national team.
After the biathlon season, it was announced that Jean-Marc Chabloz would not continue as the shooting coach for the Swedish national team. Now, it is confirmed who will succeed Chabloz: the experienced Finn Jonne Kähkönen.
Kähkönen comes from the Italian national team, where he coached athletes including Dorothea Wierer, Tommaso Giacomel, and Lisa Vittozzi.
“I am fascinated”
Kähkönen himself looks forward to joining the star-studded Swedish national team.
“I am fascinated by the Swedish system, with a strong resource center in Östersund and daily contact between coaches and athletes, which I am now looking forward to being a part of. It is hard to overlook the great potential of the Swedish national team, and I hope to contribute my experience and help them take further steps forward,” says Jonne Kähkönen.
Experience in the coaching staff
He will work alongside Johan Hagström, who is entering his 13th year as a shooting coach.
“I am 100% motivated to continue developing both myself and the team. It feels like we have a good plan to take the next step, and I am happy to be part of that whole,” says Johan Hagström.
This new initiative is long-term, aiming for the 2030 Olympics and a potential World Championship at home in Östersund.
“In this new constellation, the goal is to create even better conditions for each athlete, where the coaching staff works closely together and complements each other in daily operations,” continues Anna-Maria Uusiatalo, sports director of the Swedish Biathlon Association.
