The annual biathlon exhibition in Schalke Arena delivered another packed house and high-level racing on Sunday evening, with the home team from Germany taking a convincing victory in front of more than 40,000 spectators.

This year’s biathlon event featured a modified 1.4km course, with athletes leaving the football stadium through a tunnel and skiing several hundred meters outside the arena before returning inside. After the opening rounds, the leading positions were held by Germany, France, and Norway.

Germany’s duo, Janina Hettich-Walz and Justus Strelow, set the tone early with flawless shooting, gradually building a lead of nearly 30 seconds over France’s Lou Jeanmonnot and Fabien Claude. Norway, represented by Juni Arnekleiv and Mats Øverby, fell out of contention after several shooting errors.

Behind the leaders, Switzerland moved up steadily thanks to clean shooting, while the Czech pair Markéta Davidová and Tomáš Mikyska gained ground in the second half of the race. After strong performances on the range, the Czech team broke away from Slovenia and battled for positions between sixth and seventh.

A single miss by Hettich-Walz on the final shooting gave France a brief chance to close the gap, reducing the margin to 11 seconds. However, Fabien Claude missed his final shot, and Germany safely secured the win to the delight of the home crowd.
