Everything is going according to plan. Markéta Davidová is one month post-surgery for a herniated disc, continuing her rehabilitation, and may soon start training.

“I’m doing exercises and rehabilitation cycling. That’s my daily routine now,” says Markéta Davidová, according to Bezky.net, and adds:

“I alternate between the indoor fixed bike and outdoor cycling, but I have to be careful with the latter. I work out three times a week with our physiotherapist Eliška and also follow the Smíšek method.”

She underwent herniated disc surgery at the end of March at the Central Military Hospital in Prague. “They told me not to do anything for two weeks after the surgery. I couldn’t drive or sit. So, I either just lay down or tried to go out for short walks. I went to see the horses, just to keep myself sane, but otherwise, I really didn’t do anything for those two weeks.”

According to doctors, she may begin training about six weeks post-op.

“I have another check-up and I’ll probably give it a try. It’s important not to overdo it. I need to start cautiously. I think we’ll begin with roller skiing; running might be more problematic. I also hope I can start using my rifle again. I haven’t shot since the World Cup in Nové Město,” explains Markéta Davidová.

Her post-surgery rehabilitation has basically mirrored the April break that biathletes normally take. “It worked out relatively well. During the winter, I trained on and off. I think the start of training will be quite tough for me. But I really hope I can avoid pain.”

She didn’t travel with the team to their first training camp in Norway. “I believe I’ll go to the next one,” says Markéta, looking ahead to June and the first high-altitude camps.

“But I’ve learned that with a disc issue, there’s no point in making rigid plans. I’m not going to cling to the idea that I’ll be training normally in a month. I’ll take it day by day and try to gradually ease into it.”
