New details about the fatal accident emerged just a month ago. Now, the late biathlon star receives the most prestigious award of her career.

Last summer, German biathlon star Laura Dahlmeier tragically lost her life in a climbing accident in Pakistan at the age of 31.

This summer, nearly a year after the tragedy, new information has surfaced regarding the accident on Laila Peak on July 28, 2025. These details were revealed in the documentary “Laura Dahlmeier – One Step Too Far.”

Inducted into the Hall of Fame

It has now been announced that Dahlmeier will be inducted into the Hall of Fame of sports in Germany. This was announced by her former national team teammate Maren Hammerschmidt in a video from the organizers on Wednesday. 

“When I remember Laura, I primarily think of a person who always followed her own path, regardless of the circumstances, and always acted according to her values,” Hammerschmidt stated in the announcement. 

Dahlmeier is one of four athletes being honored. The others are alpine skier Felix Neureuther, swimmer Britta Steffen, and gymnast Fabian Hambüchen. The ceremony will take place in Frankfurt on November 26.

One of the greatest stars

Laura Dahlmeier made her World Cup debut in Holmenkollen in March 2013 and competed in her last World Cup race at the same venue in March 2019, at just 25 years old. Despite her short career, she established herself as one of Germany’s greatest biathlon stars.

Dahlmeier won two Olympic gold medals in biathlon at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, along with numerous World Championship titles. She also impressed at the World Championships in Hochfilzen in 2017, where she claimed five golds and one silver in the six races she entered. 

After retiring, Dahlmeier worked as an expert commentator for the German channel ZDF. She retired in 2019 to pursue her passion for climbing and was a certified mountain guide. Laura Dahlmeier passed away at the age of 31.
