In fact, many Scandinavian skiers have spent a long period training at high altitude in Font-Romeu in the Pyrenees.

For several years now, an increasing number of endurance athletes have been traveling to the French resort on the Spanish border. Perched at an altitude of 1,800 meters, the facilities at the CREPS (Center for Resources, Expertise, and Sports Performance) offer an idyllic setting for training.

What’s more, the surrounding terrain is perfect for roller skiing: between the roads around Lake Matemale, the CREPS roller ski track, and the many nearby mountain passes, there’s something for everyone. One of the must-do roller ski outings is the ascent of Puigmal, which is a road closed to traffic with a very good surface.

September is often the time of year when athletes on the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup circuit choose to hold a high-altitude training camp. While Norwegian star Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Emil Iversen opted for Park City in the United States, the rest of the Norwegian team is training in France.

Frida Karlsson, from Sweden, also chose the Pyrenees as the destination for her high-altitude training camp, accompanied by her boyfriend.
