Last weekend, the second stage of the Pletzer Resorts Summer GP powered by Alpenpower took place in Austria as the Hohe Wand Skiroller Festival.

The races from Friday to Sunday were held as FIS races for the first time and counted as Austrian Championships.

Hohe Wand CT uphill race

On Friday, an uphill rollerski race in classic technique to the Hohe Wand was held in a mass start format. Over a distance of 8.7 km, approximately 625 metres of elevation gain were covered. In the women’s race, Teresa Stadlober won clearly in 36:22.7 ahead of Cecil Kümpel from Cibes Lift Ski-Willy Marathon Team and Eva Trigler. In the men’s race, Kilian Kehrer secured the Austrian championship title in 32:35.6 ahead of David Fuchs (+1:04,9) and Elias Eischer (+1:30,1).

FT mass start Maiersdorf

On Saturday, a mass start race in free technique over a 6.3 km loop course in Maiersdorf took place. The women had to complete two laps totalling 12.6 km, while the men completed three laps totalling 18.9 km. In the women’s race, Teresa Stadlober claimed her second Austrian championship title in 33:39.7. The vice-championship title went to Marit Vermeulen, who also won the junior category, in 35:41.2 just ahead of Cecil Kümpel. In the men’s race, Kilian Kehrer won again in 44:44.0 ahead of David Fuchs (+4.6) and Janne Walcher (+38.1).

FT sprint Spital am Semmering

The skiroller festival concluded with a sprint race in free technique in Spital am Semmering. In the prologue, a 1 km loop had to be completed. The subsequent sprint heats were held on a 1.5 km loop. In the women’s final, Maike Bogner was crowned Austrian sprint champion ahead of Hannah Galler and Marie Schrempf. In the men’s race, Elias Eischer sprinted to victory ahead of Daniel Lasser in second place and Samuel Wakolbinger in third place.

Positive conclusion

In total, 315 athletes from 4 nations took part in the races over the 3 days. Harald Bierbaumer (race director for Friday and Saturday) draws an satisfied and positive conclusion after the races.

The perfect conditions and fantastic atmosphere on both days have once again shown how vibrant and attractive Nordic summer sport is in this wonderful region,” says Bierbaumer and is already looking forward to next year.
