The Ski Classics Challengers event Merino Muster is a long-distance race in freestyle technique taking place this Saturday, August 22, 2026, in Wanaka, New Zealand.

Merino Muster is a long-distance skiing event held in Wanaka, celebrating its 31st edition this year and, for another year, as a Ski Classics Challengers event, on Saturday, August 22 (Friday night, August 21, in Europe).

Set across the rolling terrain of the Mt. Pisa range, the Merino Muster takes skiers through one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most scenic cross-country venues. Snow Farm NZ, New Zealand’s home of cross-country skiing, provides the backdrop for this bucket-list event that draws competitors from across the globe.

Events for all

For those who prefer a shorter challenge, the Merino Muster offers a range of distances for all ages and fitness levels, from dedicated skiers to total novices, making it a true family event.

Location

New Zealand’s South Island is a dream destination for worldwide skiers. Wanaka sits at the heart of the Southern Alps, surrounded by stunning lakes and mountains. After skiing the Muster, the region offers world-class hiking, cycling, and sightseeing – from the shores of Lake Wanaka to the peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park, just a short drive away.
