You need an uphill that takes about a minute to run up. Here, Ski Classics Pro Team athlete Karolina Hedenström shares tips for an effective and intense interval workout.

Karolina Hedenström is an experienced Ski Classics Pro Team athlete, representing Lager 157 Ski Team. She now shares her insights on an effective yet challenging interval workout.

All you need is an uphill that takes about a minute to run up. The recovery period involves walking back down to the starting point.

Purpose

“I believe that doing ten one-minute intervals uphill is a very effective workout, followed by walking back down as rest, pushing hard to the max. It’s a great way to boost your speed. You can really feel the improvement when you do these sessions,” says Karolina Hedenström to ProXCskiing.com.

Workout structure

Warm-up — 15 min

  • 20 minutes of jogging
  • 3 acceleration runs

Main session — 20-25 min

  • Full speed uphill
  • Walk back down to the start (recovery)

Cooldown — 10 min

  • Any “after run” activity
