Jenny Larsson has signed with Team Engcon. Here she discusses her Pro Team switch and teaming up with two other top skiers.

Jenny Larsson has been part of Lager 157 Ski Team for the past two seasons. Two years ago, she had the best season of her career with several podium finishes. Last winter, her best result was a third place in Marcialonga.

Just over a week ago, it was confirmed that she is joining the dominant Team Engcon, where she will be teammates with Emilie Fleten and Hanna Lodin.

“In elite sports, the smallest percentages make all the difference in achieving that final lift. It was a mutual decision; I really want to get the most out of myself,” Jenny Larsson told Langd.se.

Strong women’s team

When the opportunity to join Team Engcon arose, it was very appealing to Jenny.

“When that opportunity came, I felt very eager to take it. It was probably the fact that it was Engcon and the team I knew it would be that attracted me the most.”

Emilie Fleten won Vasaloppet last season and has been one of the biggest stars in recent years. Add to that Hanna Lodin, who has been on the rise and stood on the podium six times last season. Together with Jenny, they form one of the strongest women’s teams in Ski Classics.

“It’s almost intimidating how strong it is. I’ve been part of strong women’s teams before, and I know how tough it can be, but also how much it can give back. I feel extremely inspired by it.”

The three skiers, despite their different profiles, complement each other in several ways.

“We are three very different skiers with different strengths and weaknesses. I believe that’s what everyone is here for. We all care about lifting each other up; it’s not just about seeing each other as competitors but learning from one another. You can gain new insights on things you thought you had down.”

Coaching change

Thanks to her move to Team Engcon, she will also switch coaches to Jørgen Ulvang. Jenny believes he can help her unlock those final percentages.

“It feels like I don’t have many seasons left as an elite athlete. I really want to fine-tune things, and it feels exciting to do that with Jørgen. He seems very competent and calm.”

Will there be any changes in your training?

– It will mainly be about me being more present in the moment. I won’t be counting hours; I will really focus on what needs to be done and do it well. For me as a skier, I believe it will be great that it won’t be so black and white. Training isn’t rocket science. It’s always small adjustments, but for me, they feel significant.

More motivated

After a season that Jenny describes as not going as she had hoped, she is more motivated than ever.

“I am unexpectedly motivated. It’s been a long time since I felt this motivated for a training season and a competition season. I feel ready to improve everything and be very meticulous in all I do.”

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

“The goals are the same as before: Vasaloppet and Marcialonga. I have never succeeded in Vasaloppet, so that is always a weak point for me. But I still believe it can happen if I just manage it,” Jenny Larsson concludes.
