Klæbo taken to hospital after dramatic crash in Drammen sprint
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo was taken to the hospital after a dramatic crash in the World Cup sprint semifinal in Drammen.
Demanding conditions caused Ben Ogden to lose balance on a downhill section. As he fell, he clipped Klæbo’s ski and brought down both Klæbo and two other skiers. Klæbo hit his head hard when he slammed into the snow and remained in the track for some time before being helped away by medical personnel and transported to the hospital by ambulance.
According to a press release from the Norwegian Ski Association, Klæbo was taken to Drammen Hospital for medical evaluation following the incident.
National team doctor Ove Feragen said Klæbo was doing relatively well after the crash.
“There is no indication of any serious injury. He walked away from where he fell and later got into the car that transported him to the hospital. He underwent the examinations that are required when the head is involved,” Feragen told TV 2.
Chaos
In addition to Ogden and Klæbo, Alvar Myhlback and Aron Åkre Rysstad were also involved in the crash.
“Chaos,” said Alvar Myhlback, who had a place in the final within reach before the dramatic pile-up.
Ogden said he lost balance and attempted to apologize to Klæbo afterward.
“I lost my grip and fell. I went over to him and tried to shake his hand, but he was not in the mood to talk,” the American said.
The final, therefore, took place without both the Olympic gold and silver medalists. Norway still secured the victory, but crashes and chaotic conditions also marked the final itself.
