The biathlon World Cup and IBU Cup season 2025/2026 start this week. The Norwegian national teams – World Cup and IBU Cup – are now named for the first weeks of the new winter season.

Östersund, Sweden, from November 29 to December 7, and Obertilliach, Austria, from December 4 to 7, are the places for this year’s biathlon World Cup and IBU Cup premieres, respectively.

In a press release, the Norwegian Biathlon Association has named their biathlon teams for the first events of the Biathlon World Cup and IBU Cup.

According to the Norwegian Biathlon Association, “before the season, we at the Norwegian Biathlon Association launched a new World Cup selection model, where A and B results from national races play a major role. With the new model in mind, the first World Cup selection of the season is not surprising after the start of the season in Geilo for the observant viewer – although the men created excitement when the current World Cup guys almost turned the result list upside down between the sprint on Saturday and the mass start on Sunday.”

“We knew it was going to be a tough fight for the last few places. It’s fantastic that we have so many strong athletes, but it also means that particularly strong athletes don’t always make it to the World Cup. This is just the first selection, and there will be many chances to catch up during the season. Nothing is decided before the Olympics,” points out national team manager Per Arne Botnan.
