On Thursday evening, two of Sweden’s biggest stars will face off in a duel – on roller skis that could revolutionize the sport.

Two of the World’s best cross-country skiers will compete on an entirely new kind of roller ski – never before used in competition. The race takes place in Trollhättan, the day before the World Cup kicks off.

In roller ski races, it’s the organizer who provides the roller skis. And on Thursday evening, it will be something truly special: for the first time, the stars will race on 3D-printed roller skis.

When veteran Calle Halfvarsson meets Edvin Anger in a star duel in Trollhättan, it will be on the World’s first 3D-printed roller skis.

The duel will take place at Hanseplatsen at 19:00 CET, with Robin Bryntesson as commentator.

Could revolutionize the sport

The unique roller skis being used in the star duel in Trollhättan were developed and manufactured by Mattias Igestrand, a research engineer at Högskolan Väst. The skis are made of metal using advanced 3D-printing technology.

3D printing is increasingly being used for the manufacturing and customization of sports equipment, not least in biathlon.

Two world stars at opposite ends of their careers

Edvin Anger won the U23 World Cup overall last winter and finished second overall in the World Cup, behind only Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. The 23-year-old from Hedemora now has his sights set on his first Olympics.

Calle Halfvarsson made his World Cup debut back in 2009 and was one of Petter Northug’s main rivals throughout the ski king’s career. Now the veteran is aiming for his fourth Olympics. The 36-year-old broke with the national team ahead of this season after 14 years on the squad.
