Just over a week ago, veteran skier Calle Halfvarsson won Swedish Championship gold on roller skis. Now he is changing clubs for the last time in his career.

July 1 was the final day to complete a club transfer in Sweden. At the last minute, it was confirmed that Calle Halfvarsson is leaving IFK Mora after two seasons to instead compete for his childhood club, Sågmyra SK.

“But it was nice that I got to end on a high note with Mora anyway,” Calle Halfvarsson told Expressen.

“Final destination”

A week and a half ago, he won gold in roller skiing wearing IFK Mora’s colors, but that turned out to be his final race for the club. Halfvarsson confirms to Expressen that this is the last club change of his career.

“It’s because I want to return to the club I hold closest to my heart. Sågmyra is, after all, the club that means the most to me,” he says, and continues:

“This will be my final destination. And I hope I can win another Swedish Championship gold for Sågmyra.”

Plenty of roller ski races

In addition to Sågmyra being his original club, there are other advantages to the switch.

“That’s right. It’s a much smaller club, but at the same time, I get complete freedom in Sågmyra and can decide a lot myself, and I like that.”

Expressen reported earlier this spring that Calle Halfvarsson is training outside of the national team setup this summer. That will mean significantly more competitions during the summer.

“There will be an incredible amount of racing for me starting in August. I’ll be away pretty much every weekend,” he says, and adds:

“More or less! There will be both Toppidrettsveka and the Blink Festival in Norway, plus the Alliansloppet and a few other races here at home. And also some running competitions.”
