After the best season of his life, the Norwegian biathlon star Sturla Holm Lægreid is making a significant change ahead of the 2026 Olympic season.

Sturla Holm Lægreid is making one of the most important decisions of his biathlon career: Switching his ski brand ahead of the 2026 Olympics.

According to information obtained by Langrenn.com, the 27-year-old from Norway is moving to Fischer.

A loss for Madshus

For the Norwegian ski manufacturer, Lægreid’s departure is a bittersweet one.

“Yes, we think it’s sad. We’ve achieved a lot together,” says Lars M. Kurås from Madshus to Langrenn.com.

The Norwegian biathlon star leaves a proud legacy among the employees at the factory in Biri.

“Thank you for the unforgettable years with Madshus, from your first World Cup victory in 2020, to the World Championship gold the year after, and now as the world’s dominant biathlete and overall World Cup winner this year. We are proud to have been part of your journey. We wish you continued success, and who knows: maybe our paths will cross again,” writes Madshus.

Rising as the world’s best

Since Sturla Holm Lægreid debuted in the World Cup in 2020, he has won one Olympic gold, 14 World Championship medals (including seven golds), 79 World Cup podiums, five small crystal globes, and the overall World Cup title once (2025).

“I’ve been an annoying little brother”

After Johannes Thingnes Bø retired in March this year, Lægreid is expected to take over his position as the dominant force in the World Cup.

And Lægreid has recently made good use of his time with his mentor. He has done everything he can to absorb tips from the outgoing biathlon king on how to take his performance to the next level.

“I’ve been like a mosquito around him, an annoying little brother. I’ve tried to pick up on the things he does. It’s not always easy to understand exactly what makes the difference, but I’ve managed to copy a few things that I’ll take with me moving forward,” he tells Langrenn.com.
