It’s that time of the year again! The first part of our big ski test will be published on Sunday evening. In this article, you will get an insight into how the tests were carried out and how to ensure you know this winter’s top cross-country skis.

First up is the skin skis test, then a poles test, and ultimately a double poling skis test, all that before the winter starts.

Test Location and Ski Tester

The Torsby ski tunnel in Sweden was the place for ProXCskiing.com’s ski test. Together with the Svenskt Sportforums Sportakademidagar (Swedish Sports Forum’s Sports Academy Days) in Torsby, we were on-site to run this winter’s big ski test.

The test responsible was former elite skier Sanna Forsman, and our journalist, Hedda Westby, was there to coordinate the tests and results.

“We had a clear test schedule where we went through each brand. From each ski brand, we tested a pair of skin skis aimed at recreational skiers and a pair of double poling skis that are more elite-oriented (the test results for the double poling skis will be published later in October),” says Forsman.

How did the ski test work?

“The skiing test took place inside the ski tunnel in Torsby. I tested the ski on a flat surface to have the actual feel of the ski. In addition, I tested how it was experienced in terms of skiing in and outside the classic track. Then, I continued to the slope in the tunnel to test the grip with the skins. And then I turned downhill, so in total, there was about one lap in the tunnel per ski,” says Forsman, who, after each ski test, talked to journalist Hedda Westby to share her thoughts and opinions about the ski (based on the elements that we chose to focus on in this test – see below which parts were in focus during the test).

During the days in Torsby, pole tests were also conducted, and these tests will also be published here on ProXCskiing.com.

The tests of skin skis will be published here on ProXCskiing.com on Sunday, October 15, at 19:00 CET.
