Dario Cologna: “It’s really the next generation”

Last week Olympic champion Dario Cologna hosted 40 of the best under-16 young future stars of the Helvetia Nordic Trophy from the past winter, for the annual Dario Cologna Youth Camp in Davos, Switzerland.

Last week Olympic champion Dario Cologna hosted 40 of the best under-16 young future stars of the Helvetia Nordic Trophy from the past winter, for the annual Dario Cologna Youth Camp in Davos, Switzerland.

Cologna revealed the conception  of the camp, “The idea was to do something for Swiss XC skiing and then for especially for the youth” and who better to share such knowledge then Olympic Champion Cologna. “It’s great to see them to give some great advice.”

“I want to do something for also for the young skiers and then we thought what the best age could be, and then we decide to do it something with under 16 skiers.”

“It’s a very important age 15-16 years’”

Over the four-day youth camp the young athletes took part in a series of roller ski, endurance and strength sessions and exercises. Of course, mixed in with some games and an extra-curricular excursion to the Adventure Park.

The camp is an opportunity for a bridging in the gap between young teens to the more elite junior skiers. “Because they are not yet in Swiss Ski National Team but there still on a good level.” Cologna continues, “It’s important to keep them motivated for skiing.”

“They will probably be also in some years on the national team and skiing  World Championships or in the Olympics so that’s really the next generation.”

Cologna concluded, noting the importance of having “A good team spirit for this generation.”
