Niskanen Siblings Strike Again At Lapponia Ski Week

The Visma Ski Classics Challengers event Lapponia Ski Week – Stage 2 took place today with a 50km race in freestyle technique in Vuontisjärvi, Finland.

The Visma Ski Classics Challengers event Lapponia Ski Week – Stage 2 took place today with a 50km race in freestyle technique in Vuontisjärvi, Finland.

After 50km with challenging snow conditions and strong winds, the Visma Ski Classics Challengers event, Lapponia Ski Week, saw the siblings Iivo and Kerttu Niskanen, Lapland Hotels Olos, winning again at stage 2.

In the women’s race, Kerttu Niskanen, Lapland Hotels Olos, with a time of 2:48:24.7, won ahead of Eeva Kuusela, Vantaan Hiihtoseura, in second place, 6:19.4 back. Eevakaisa Loukusa, 6:26.0 behind, finished in third place.

In the men’s competition, stage 1, the winner was Iivo Niskanen, Lapland Hotels Olos, with a time of 2:29:23.8. Juho Mikkonen, Lapland Hotels Olos, finished in second place, 21.7 seconds behind, followed by Jeremias Lipsanen, Juvan Urheilijat, 5:25.6 back and completing the podium in the third position.

LAPPONIA SKI WEEK – FACTS

  • Location: Olos, Vuontisjärvi and Ounasjärvi, Finland
  • Date: Monday, April 4; Wednesday, April 6; and Friday, April 8
  • Start Time: Women & Men 9:30 CET (Monday and Wednesday) and 8:00 CET (Friday)
  • Distance: 60, 50, and 80km Freestyle Technique
  • Website: Lapponia Ski Week 

As Lapponia Ski Week is a Visma Ski Classics Challengers event, Pro Team registered athletes could collect points for the Ski Classics Champion and Youth competitions in their respective gender.
