Five years after they became a couple, the big news came from the cross-country skiing stars: “It was about time.”

Maja Dahlqvist and Kevin Bolger are engaged. The Swedish sprint star is set to marry the American cross-country skiing star.

The couple announced the news themselves on social media.

“It was about damn time,” Dahlqvist wrote on Instagram.

The couple, who have lived in Trondheim in recent years, are engaged six and a half years after they started dating. They first met during the World Championships in Oberstdorf in 2021.

Moving to Falun

Dahlqvist (32) and Bolger (33) recently bought a house together in Falun, close to where Dahlqvist grew up. However, they will continue to reside in Trondheim throughout the season.

Two major profiles

Kevin Bolger made his World Cup debut in March 2018. He has participated in one Olympics (2022) and five World Championships for the USA. His best result in an international championship is a seventh-place finish in the team sprint at the 2025 World Championships. In the World Cup, he has nine top-10 finishes, with a fourth-place finish in the team sprint in 2025 being his best result.

Maja Dahlqvist has so far medaled in all Olympic events she has participated in, most recently winning gold in the team sprint at the 2026 Olympics in Italy. She also earned two silver and two bronze medals at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. Additionally, she has won the overall sprint World Cup three times: in 2022, 2023, and 2026.

The Swedish ski star made her World Cup debut in November 2014. To date, she has competed in 178 World Cup races, standing on the podium in 50 of them and winning 14.
