Therese Johaug Is Expecting A Baby

The now-retired Norwegian cross-country skiing superstar Therese Johaug announced she is pregnant.

Therese Johaug (NOR) during the Winter Olympics in China. Now she announced she is expecting a baby.

Therese Johaug made it public today through her social media that she is expecting a baby together with Nils Jakob Hoff. According to the post, “2022 has offered everything she could dream of, and the ‘flock’ is expanding.”

“That is the greatest thing you can achieve. It surpasses all the golds I have won,” says Johaug to NRK and continues:

“I think it’s very cool, and then I have to say that I think it’s a little scary. That you don’t quite know what you’re getting into. But I’m looking forward to it. I feel that a lot happened in 2022.” 

“I am used to managing my everyday life all by myself, and suddenly there is a completely new boss in the house. It’s a bit of joy mixed with horror,” she says.

Marit Bjørgen is an important supporter of Johaug on several levels and offered some advice. 

“I’ve talked a lot with Marit (Bjørgen), so I’ve got some tips on what to look for and what I can train. I have received good follow-up from the people I have worked with, both at the Olympiatoppen and previously,” says Johaug.

At the beginning of March 2022, Therese Johaug announced that she would end her career as a top-class cross-country skier after the season.

In front of the current season, Johaug stepped in as an expert commentator in cross-country skiing for NRK. She wants to continue that job, and according to the plan will be at both the Norwegian National Championships in a couple of weeks and the World Championships in Planica at the end of February, beginning of March. 

“I will still take part in the NM (Norwegian National Championships) and WC (World Championships) in Planica. The shape is nice, but I was very tired at the beginning, which was unusual for me. Compared to many others I hear about, I have been very lucky,” says Johaug.

Johaug has won 14 World Championships gold medals in her career. At the Beijing Olympics, she won the first individual Olympic gold of her career, in a total of three at the end of the Olympic Games.
