The cross-country skiing World Cup season 2025/2026 moves to Oberhof this weekend, and the Swedish national team has been announced.

The cross-country skiing World Cup season 2025/2026 moves to Oberhof this weekend, and the Swedish national team has been announced.

Oberhof, Germany, will host another World Cup stage this weekend, from Saturday, January 17, to Sunday, January 18, 2026. The program opens on Saturday with a Sprint in freestyle technique. The weekend concludes on Sunday with a 10km interval-start race in classic technique.

In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association confirmed the national team selection for Oberhof.

“After a short break after the Tour de Ski, it is time for the world elite to gather in Oberhof, Germany, to settle the World Cup points and the final Olympic spots. Now the squad that will represent Sweden during this weekend’s competitions is presented.

2026 has kicked off with exciting Tour de Ski competitions in Toblach and Val di Fiemme, and now the World Cup continues in Germany and Oberhof. The Swedish national team has a squad of 16 skiers, all competing for World Cup points.

“We are bringing a lot of new names to Oberhof, as several of our established World Cup skiers are leaving to charge towards the Olympics. We have mostly watched the competitions in the Scandinavian Cup, but also the most recent, the Smart Energy Cup in Falun this past weekend,” says national team manager Anders Byström.

Linn Svahn and Jonna Sundling are back on the World Cup stage – and are joined by, among others, Calle Halfvarsson, who has been selected for this weekend’s distance race.

“It will be exciting to see them in the World Cup again. It will also be the World Cup debut in the white jersey for Erik Johansson and Oskar Algotsson, who performed strongly in the freestyle sprint in the Scandinavian Cup before Christmas,” says Anders Byström.

There is a sprint in freestyle and a 10-kilometer classic-style race on the schedule.

“There are still some Olympic spots left to fill on the men’s side, so strong results will be important if you are going to be in the running to go to the Olympics,” says Anders Byström.
