There was no doubt about who would take home the Swedish Championships gold in the men’s 50km race. But the battle for silver and bronze was much more dramatic.

The men’s 50km was the final event of the Swedish Championships program in Kalix. Gustaf Berglund was strong from start to finish in the race, which was held with an individual start. He was only not in the lead at the first intermediate time.

After the race, he was very pleased with his performance and especially happy to share the podium with two other IFK Mora skiers.

“It feels awesome. I’ve shared the podium at the Swedish Championships with these two guys before, so it was nice to do it again,” said Gustaf Berglund to Expressen after finishing.

There was more excitement in the battle for the spots behind Berglund. Fredrik Andersson of Piteå Elit held a medal position for a long time after a strong start. But in the end, it was IFK Mora’s Axel Jutterström who took silver after a strong second half of the race. Jutterström, who normally competes in Ski Classics, showed that his skating technique is still solid despite mostly double-poling in his usual races.

As mentioned, IFK Mora also claimed the third spot. Eric Rosjö, who won gold in the 10km race on Thursday, managed to secure another medal in this championship by finishing third. Rosjö was completely exhausted after the race and lay on the ground at the finish line for a long time.

A surprise during the race came from the Murto brothers from Gellivare Skidallians. The fastest of the two was Eelis, who ended up in seventh place.

Calle Halfvarsson abandoned the race a little past the halfway point.
