Sweden storms to skiathlon gold and silver at Milano-Cortina 2026

The Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics got underway for the cross-country skiers today in Val di Fiemme, Italy, with the women’s 20km skiathlon event.

The Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics got underway for the cross-country skiers today in Val di Fiemme, Italy, with the women’s 20km skiathlon event.

Frida Karlsson, from Sweden, delivered a commanding performance, claiming Olympic gold in the 20km skiathlon race (10km classic + 10km freestyle) – complete results from the women’s event.

Frida Karlsson crossed the finish line in a winning time of 53:45.2, claiming the gold medal.

Ebba Andersson, also from Sweden, secured the silver medal, finishing 51.0 seconds back, while Norway’s Heidi Weng completed the podium in third place, 1:26.7 behind the winner and secured the bronze medal.

Nadja Kälin, from Switzerland, and Kerttu Niskanen, from Finland, rounded out the top five, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
