Olympic champion becomes national team doctor – in a “new” sport
The Swedish cross-country national team’s staff is expanding. The former Olympic champion is joining the medical team as a doctor with a focus on the Team Svenska Spel Junior National Team.
The Swedish cross-country national team is enlarging its coaching staff. Marcus Wadell, brought in from the RIG/Tingsholm high school in Ulricehamn, will reinforce the staff and take over parts of Johan Granath’s and Ida Ingemarsdotter’s responsibilities during the coming year.
This duo is more involved with the senior national team and Team Bauhaus this year, alongside Stefan Thomson.
From Ulricehamn
He will mainly be responsible for the Scandinavian Cup but will also support activities in Falun. Wadell will also participate in junior national team activities and at the Junior/U23 World Championships in Norway.
“Marcus Wadell is an experienced coach who has worked with both juniors and seniors in Ulricehamn for many years and has also been involved in various assignments with the national teams. He provides an important link to the RIG program, as he will continue his work at Tingsholm high school while at the same time strengthening our coaching staff,” says national team manager Anders Byström in a press release.
Wadell is happy to take the next step in his coaching career.
“I look forward to taking the next step in my coaching role, and after many years in Ulricehamn, it feels inspiring to be able to contribute more to the national team program. The Scandinavian Cup is an important arena for athletes with high ambitions, and at the same time, being part of the junior national team and the elite environment in Falun is a great privilege. I hope to contribute to maintaining the strong training environment that already exists there,” says Marcus Wadell.
Olympic champion, new doctor
Fredrik Lindström had a successful career as a biathlete, including an Olympic gold medal. Now he is taking over as the doctor responsible for the Team Svenska Spel Junior National Team.
“We look forward to the expertise that Fredrik Lindström brings to the team. He has an exciting background as a successful elite athlete, and when combined with his medical degree, he becomes an important resource for our juniors,” says Anders Byström.
Both Wadell and Lindström have already started their assignments and have been involved in the program during the summer.
